Car claims
Other car claims: what to do and what to gather
The basics that apply to almost any car claim.
Do this first
- Make sure everyone is safe
- Photograph everything before it's repaired or moved
- Contact your insurer before arranging repairs
Who to tell
- Your insurer: Start your claim promptly.
- The police: If a crime or an injury was involved.
What to gather
- Photos of the damage. Shows what happened.
- Date, time and place. Every claim starts with this.
- Details of anyone else involved. Needed to recover costs.
- A repair quote. Helps assess the cost.
Things that catch people out
- Don't authorise major repairs until your insurer agrees.
